External Scholarship Opportunities

Vigilant Torch has the honor of referring qualified candidates to multiple scholarships each year through the Special Operations Fund (SOFund).  As these opportunities become available, we inform our members as well as prior scholarship applicants about the particular programs and their deadlines.  We then collect applications and select our candidate to send forward to SOFund.  SOFund then chooses a recipient from candidates provided by Vigilant Torch and other partner organizations.

Not a member of Vigilant Torch?  Apply today to become eligible to apply for our TORCH Scholarship and SOFund scholarships.

2025_AAFS-SOFund_Summer_Abroad_Scholarship.png

Special Operations Fund (SOFund) and AFS-Faces of America have partnered to offer a summer abroad scholarship to qualifying high school students. Students must be dependents of a current or retired soldier, sailor, or airman from one of the organizations supported by SOFund, which includes the Vigilant Torch Foundation. This year, SOFund will have a student representative from each of the six organizations to receive a scholarship in summer 2026.

This scholarship was established to provide a student with the opportunity to experience the world. This is not a merit-based scholarship (SOFund offers the Exeter Summer as a merit-based scholarship). Students who have previously attended Exeter Summer are not eligible to apply. Students who attend an AFS-SOFund summer abroad program may be eligible to apply for Exeter.

STUDENTS - Do not fill out the online application for AFS-Faces of America! Please complete the one hyperlinked on our website. Once a student has been selected, SOFund will send a separate link.

Applications are due at 11:59pm EST, December 4th. Please send all completed applications to scholarship@vigilant-torch.org.
